Amber Heard will appeal: “I am heartbroken because the mountain of evidence was not enough to face the power”

After six weeks of televised trial, the jury read the verdict of the trial between Amber Heard Y Johnny Depp on June 1. The actress has been sentenced to pay 15 million dollars for defaming her ex-husband with accusations of abuse, while the actor will have to pay two millions for the counterclaim filed by Heard. However, the star of ‘Aquaman’ intends to appeal.

Alafair Hall, a spokesman for Heard, confirmed to The New York Times that Heard will appeal the jury’s decision.. “I am heartbroken because the mountain of tests was not enough to face the power and the disproportionate influence of my ex-husband. I am even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. It is a setback. It turns back the clock to a time when a woman who speaks up could be publicly shamed and humiliated. It undermines the idea that violence against women should be taken seriously,” Heard said in a statement.

Lisa Bloom, a well-known American lawyer who represented several women in sexual harassment cases against presenter Bill O’Reilly, predicted that Heard and Depp’s case would end up on appeal. “I want to underline that this it’s not the end because most defamation cases are really decided on appeal“he told Newsnight.

“I have handled several libel cases, including representing Janice Dickinson against Bill Cosby. We had to file two appeals in that case, both of which were successful. I think this is an inconsistent verdict. How could Amber Heard be libeled when Johnny Depp’s lawyer said her accusations were a hoax, and yet Johnny Depp was also smeared when she said she was a representative of domestic violence? She has also been convicted of libel over the headline of the article, which she did not write I think this is going to be appealed, I think that within a year or two we will have an answer and a definitive result, “the expert predicted.
