Bradley Cooper has turned into a true old man to embody Leonard Bernstein, one of the most influential composers and conductors in the USA.
In addition to directing ‘Maestro’, the actor plays the famous musician from his youth until his death at the age of 72, which took place in 1990, as can be seen in the first images revealed by Netflix, in which he appears together to the actress Carey Mulligan, who plays Bernstein’s wife, Felicia Montealegre.
In several of these black and white photographs, a young Bernstein appears with his wife. Apparently they formed a happy marriage, despite the fact that the musician was gay. Other scenes, already in color, show only Cooper in a later stage of the composer.
‘Maestro’ will review the most important facts of the famous artist’s biography, known for composing the music, among other shows, for ‘West Side Story’, a 1957 Broadway musical that gave rise to the emblematic 1961 film.
The characterization of the interpreter is very successful, since Cooper, at 47 years old, He appears unrecognizable under layers of prosthetic makeup that allow him to age no more and no less than 30 years to embody the musician in his last stage, already in his seventies.
According to ‘Variety’, the film began shooting this May and is scheduled to be released in 2023. Cooper himself wrote the text with Josh Singer, the Oscar-winning screenwriter for ‘Spotlight’. As for the producers of the drama, they are two references in the film industry: Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese.
Last January, Cooper revealed in an interview that he was obsessed with directing as a child and spent hundreds of hours practicing it. After trying out as a producer and executive producer on several films, he made his dream come true in 2018, with a new version of ‘A Star Is Born’, starring alongside Lady Gaga. A film that, in addition to directing, he also starred in, wrote and produced.
