consumption of self-consumption photovoltaic energy it has quintupled since 2019, going from 0.9% to 4.5% todayaccording to data from the third Spanish Photovoltaic Self-consumption Observatory, sponsored by Solarwatt.
The general director of Solarwatt Spain, Ernesto Macías, stressed that this data is very favorable for the sector, since “It is freeing us little by little from foreign technological dependence.”
The report, carried out among more than 1,500 people between the ages of 25 and 75, owners or co-owners of their current home, who live in an independent chalet and reside in municipalities with more than 25,000 inhabitants, indicates that photovoltaic energy is the most valued by users, since 87.9% of users prefer it to the rest of renewable energiesfor its “more accessible character and for the meteorological characteristics of the country”.
Meanwhile, wind power is second in the ranking (60%), followed by hydroelectric power (12.9%) and energy that comes from organic waste (11.2%). For their part, fossil fuels, such as natural gas (6.2%), coal (1.1%) and fuel oil (0.4%) are the worst rated types of energy.
In addition, the study shows that 35% of the people surveyed affirm that they have been informed and documented about this type of energy, while 32% of people are sure that they want to commission a photovoltaic installation in the short or medium term, being convinced of this 18% of them.
Savings on the bill from 30% to 80%
Likewise, among the motivations that lead consumers to opt for this type of energy, savings in electricity bills (67.4%) prevail, which represents an increase of more than 10% since the previous report.
For their part, potential and current customers of photovoltaic energy project a consumption savings ranging from 30% to 80%.
In addition, the report shows that one of the factors that could promote photovoltaic self-consumption is to favor savings of more than 50% in the current electricity bill and increase the guarantee of solar panels to 30 years.
Be that as it may, the data reveals the unstoppable rise of home solar energyto which the constant appearance of new versatile cover plate models that are very easy to install, often without the need for a professional fitter, makes a decisive contribution.
