If you’re thinking of getting married in Las Vegas with a ceremony officiated by an Elvis Presley impersonator, forget it and change your plans. The licensing company Authentic Brands Group, which manages the rights and image of the king of rock, has issued a statement calling for Las Vegas chapels to stop using the star.

“Unauthorized use of Presley’s name, image, voice, and other elements constitute trademark infringement,” the company said in a statement.

The letter, which has reached a limited number of chapels, has generated confusion and concern in a sector that was beginning to see the light a little after two years complicated by the pandemic. In fact, according to CNN, some chapels have already begun to withdraw the offer of weddings officiated by Elvis from their web pages.

The AP News agency has already collected statements from some of the affected businesses, such as ‘Las Vegas Elvis Wedding Chapel’ and ‘Little Chapel of Hearts’: “We are family businesses and now we find ourselves with the big dogs. This is what gives us We don’t understand it. We had just picked up the pace again after Covid and now we find this,” they lament and add: “Your solution is to pay $20,000 a year to keep doing what we’ve been doing for nine years ”.

This demand comes a few weeks before the premiere of the biographical film ‘Elvis’, which opens on June 24 and is directed by Baz Luhrmann (‘Moulin Rouge’).
