The skin renews itself in 28-day cycles. In winter, due to the clothes we wear and the fact that the skin is not exposed to the sun, this renewal slows down and a deeper layer of keratinized (or dead) cells accumulates.
The tan will be more even and long lasting if new cells are tanned and not dead cells. In addition, getting rid of keratinized cells will prevent spots from appearing on the skin and the hydrolipidic layer will remain completely compact.
Through a ‘peeling’ we will eliminate keratinized cells. Padilla proposes Bottega di Lungavita’s Alpha Hydroxy Acid, an enzymatic ‘peeling’ based on fruit enzymes. He also recommends mechanical exfoliation based on fruit pits with microparticles.
CHOOSING AN APPROPRIATE PROTECTION FACTOR
Depending on the type of skin, we will apply one protection factor or another. It is recommended to use at least factor 15. In cases of white skin, skin with spots or scars, it is advisable to use total screen protectors.
INCLUDE PRODUCTS WITH VITAMIN C IN OUR ROUTINE
Vitamin C is one of the best antioxidants and a very healthy asset for the skin. By applying products that contain it, such as some serums, we will help our skin to neutralize the action of free radicals and prevent solar aggressions and photoaging.
USE SUN PROTECTION GRADUALLY
We must protect the skin both daily and when we go to sunbathe. In moments of greater exposure, we will have to focus more on this protection. One piece of advice from Maria Padilla is to apply the protection gradually, from more to less, as the summer progresses.
CORRECTLY APPLY SUNSCREEN
We will only protect ourselves properly from the sun if we apply sunscreen correctly. We will apply the protection (in a generous and uniform way) half an hour before sunbathing and we will apply it again every two hours, as well as after bathing or sweating.
CONTROL THE EXPOSURE TIME
It is not recommended to sunbathe for more than 15 minutes during the first exposures. This time may gradually increase as the days go by and our skin is more prepared to receive higher doses of sun. It is advisable to avoid sunbathing between 12:00 and 16:00 and it is not recommended to do it for more than 2 hours at a time.
