Queen Letizia wears a red vest again on her cooperation trip to Mauritania


The Queen Letizia visit Mauritania in a new cooperation trip. The monarch will learn first-hand about the work that Spanish organizations carry out in the African country in the areas of health, rural development, food security, governance and gender equality.

The official plane landed at the International Airport of Nouakchott on May 31 at about seven in the afternoon. There, the queen was received by the First Lady of the Islamic Republic, Mariem Fadel Dah. Both met again after their last meeting three months ago, when they met in Zarzuela on the occasion of her husband’s trip, the President Mohamed Ould Sheikh El Ghazouani.

Letizia arrived with her usual volunteer uniform. Shirt and wide pants in a very simple white tone, comfortable boots and the classic Red Waistcoat, which has already become an emblem of their humanitarian movements. She has worn it up to seven times, because this is his seventh cooperation trip after the proclamation of Felipe VI as king in 2014.

His first trip was to Honduras and El Salvador in 2015. In 2017 he traveled to Senegal. In 2018 she traveled to the Dominican Republic and Haiti. In 2019 she visited Mozambique. In 2020 she went to Honduras. And in 2021, last November, she went to Paraguay. On all these occasions she was also seen with the red volunteer vest.

Mauritania is one of the poorest countries in the world, ranking 157 out of 189 in the Human Development Index measured by the UN. The queen’s trip to this territory is expected to last until Thursday, June 2. During these days she will visit several projects in which the Aecid (Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation) and another dozen Spanish NGOs. She will be accompanied by the first lady, who is very involved in social causes. However, Queen Letizia is not expected to see her husband, the Mauritanian president.
