Winona Ryder, icon of the 90s, stars in Marc Jacobs’ new glam-grunge campaign, after having posed years ago for the New York couturier.
The 50-year-old ‘Stranger Things’ actress, who has been photographed by Harley Weir and Emma Wyman, appears in the images with the new J Marc Shoulder Bag, as well as different clothes such as a slip dress with details of lace, a black tulle skirt and several ’90s-inspired looks.
In a video and in various photos, the star of ‘Reality Bites’ wears a bob cut and goth-style makeup: smoky eyes, a generous amount of blush and shiny black nails, which add a touch of grunge.
The relationship between the actress and the designer is very curious. In 2001, Ryder was arrested for stealing more than $3,000 worth of designer clothes from a Saks Fifth Avenue store, including a cashmere sweater.
Weeks later, the interpreter wore a dress by the designer to attend the trial and, in a clever marketing move, Jacobs chose Ryder for his campaign.
Winona was convicted of shoplifting and sentenced to three years probation, but then the actress and the creator struck up a close friendship.
In fact, two years later, in the spring of 2003, Jacobs launched a campaign starring Winona: “I asked her to do this campaign because I thought she looked gorgeous in all those photos we’ve seen of her recently, regardless of whether were at the trial,” he explained then.
In 2015, Winona again became the face of the new beauty line Marc Jacobs Beauty. And now, the designer has signed her again to star in the campaign for her latest bag: J Marc Shoulder Bag.
